January 4

Memorial of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Religious

  • On her feast day, read the story of Elizabeth Ann Seton a wife, mother, founder of a religious order, and American saint.

  • To honor St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, begin a novena for life to her and two other American Saints, Frances Cabrini and John Neumann.

  • Believe it or not, Pope Francis was recently named one of the 50 most  influential Jews in the United States by the Jewish Daily Forward. Okay, to be fair, of the 50 candidates, two don't have to be Jewish but can be selected for showing respect and an understanding of Jewish culture. One of the Pope's closest friends is Jewish Rabbi, Abraham Skorka, from Argentina. The two co-hosted a TV show in Buenos Aires about inter-religious dialogue and   co-authored a book titled On Heaven and Earth.

  •  The United States bishops are engaged in two official dialogues with the Jewish community as part of the work of the USCCB Secretariat for Ecumenical and  Interreligious Affairs. Read more about the dialogues and the documents they have produced.
