Second Sunday of Advent

ReaD

"Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight his paths." (Luke 3:4) In the Gospel today, John the Baptist encourages people to prepare the way of the Lord. He is talking not about the baby in the manger, but about the adult Christ soon to begin his public ministry. The U.S. bishops provide more commentary about the prayers and readings for the Second Sunday of Advent.

Reflect

"What is the meaning of 'Prepare the way of the Lord'? It means: make ready for the reception of whatever Christ may wish to do." --St. Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on Luke, 6

Pray

Pray to St. Juan Diego today. Because his feast day falls on a Sunday, it is not recognized this year, but it was on this day in the 16th century that Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to St. Juan Diego in what is now Mexico.

Act

Light the second violet candle on your Advent wreath today.
