The Collection for the CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN (CCC) helps spread the Gospel message locally and nationally on radio, television, in print, and on the Internet. Through its funded projects, Catholics and all media consumers have opportunities to find Gospel-grounded messages and resources to strengthen their families and their faith. Half of every dioceses CCC Collection remains in the diocese to fund local Catholic communication efforts. Many dioceses will take up this Collection on May 18. USCCB Presents Priesthood Ordination Class of 2008
WASHINGTONFor some, such as Hai Duc Din, 46, of the Diocese of Davenport, Iowa, who spent a year in a Vietnamese labor camp, the road to the priesthood was marked by soul-searching ordeal.
For others, such as Martin Laird, MD, 40, of the Diocese of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Kevin Bauman, 47, of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Indiana, and former vice-chairman of the Romance Language Department at the University of Notre Dame, priesthood follows another career.

The mission of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is to support the ministry of bishops with an emphasis on evangelization, by which the bishops exercise in a communal and collegial manner certain pastoral functions entrusted to them by the Lord Jesus of sanctifying, teaching, and governing.
This mission calls the Conference to
- Act collaboratively and consistently on vital issues confronting the Church and society
- Foster communion with the Church in other nations, within the Church universal, under the leadership of its supreme pastor, the Roman Pontiff
- Offer appropriate assistance to each bishop in fulfilling his particular ministry in the local Church
