Under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer, staff for the Communications Department are grouped into five teams (offices) with specific areas of expertise to ensure that the broad communication needs of the USCCB are coordinated and implemented in an organic and collaborative manner. Each team or office has key areas of responsibility that support and facilitate the work of not only the other Communication teams but the entire work of the USCCB.
The office of the Chief Communications Officer is responsible for coordination of system operations, project management and overall collaboration with other USCCB offices, with the Communications Committee and with national and international collaborators.
The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) is the U.S. bishops' inititative for responding to the national and local communications needs of the Church. Established in 1979, the CCC is supported by a collection taken in parishes usually on World Communications Day (the Sunday before Pentecost). The collection is unique in that proceeds are split equally between each participating diocese and the national office, which provides grants for domestic and international projects that evangelize through the media.
