CLA Annual Report 2019

1 LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, G reetings in the Lord! It is with gratitude and humility that I share with you this report on the activities of the Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America. Like most of the world, Latin America is undergoing an epoch of change. For more than fifty years, the Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America has read the signs of the times, so that we may act accordingly in the light of the Gospel. In this report, you will see how your generosity has helped us do just that through the Collection for the Church in Latin America. Together we respond to the current and future needs of the faithful in the region, whether by preparing for the natural disasters that continue to devastate communities, by supporting indigenous communities in their desire to grow closer to Jesus Christ, or by funding pastoral programs that help to spread the faith. The Collection for the Church in Latin America and its grantmaking activities are acts of love, solidarity, and compassion. I am grateful for your support. Catholics in the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean share an important friendship. We expand the experience of the Church and work together to promote the common good. We must continue to work together in this way. Throughout this report, you will get a mere glimpse of the good work that is performed thanks to your generosity and prayers. Please continue to pray for our Church, the faithful throughout this region, and all those who long to know and love Jesus Christ. May God bless you and your loved ones. Gratefully in Christ, Most Reverend Octavio Cisneros Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Brooklyn Chairman, USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America
