Blocks Together

Some days, as Delores Collins walked to work, she would kick needles into the sewer so kids wouldn't step on them. Her Chicago neighborhood was "a tough area, with lots of drugs and gangs." Then George Goehl from Blocks Together (BT) showed up at her door and invited her to join the CCHD-funded neighborhood group working with residents to improve the community.

New Campus Web Site on Catholic Social Teaching

The USCCB Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development has collaborated with eleven Catholic organizations to create a new Web site to help campus ministers, students, and young adults promote Catholic social teaching. The site features Catholic social teaching resources, prayer materials, small group guides, tools for action, and multimedia such as videos and podcasts. Read the press release. The Cardinal Bernardin New Leadership Award is given annually to a Catholic young adult (age 18-30) engaged in efforts to end the root causes of poverty in the United States. Learn more here.
 


Diocesan Projects Highlight Good Works Of CCHD

Numerous projects in dioceses all over the country reflect the benefits of CCHD funding toward breaking the cycle of poverty. In 2008, CCHD funding involved 776 Catholic parishes, 18 Catholic Charities agencies, and 51 religious communities.
