Committee on Women in Society and in the Church

Welcome to the web site of the Committee on Women in Society and in the Church, a standing Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Committee on Women in Society and in the Church provides a structured means to (1) listen to the needs, issues and concerns of women, (2) communicate them to the body of bishops, and (3) respond through specific initiatives. The Committee advocates for women’s participation in society and in the church, with special emphasis on collaboration between women and clergy. Its mandate is based on church teaching about the dignity, equality, and gifts of women, especially as articulated in Pope John Paul II’s Mulieris Dignitatem and the U. S. Bishops’ Strengthening the Bonds of Peace.
