TEMPERANCE:
The Cardinal
Virtue by which one moderates the
desire for the attainment of and
pleasure in earthly goods.
TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:
The Holy Spirit dwells in the
Church in each member, providing
the gifts and fruits that make the
Church’s members holy.
TEN COMMANDMENTS:
Laws
guiding human actions given to
Moses by God on Mount Sinai.
THEOLOGICAL VIRTUES:
The
Theological Virtues are faith, hope,
and charity. They call us to believe
in God, hope in him, and love him.
The Theological Virtues relate
directly to the living God.
THEOLOGY:
Theology is the
reflective study of Revelation as
found in the Scripture, in Apostolic
Tradition, and in Church teaching.
TRADITION:
The living transmis-
sion of the message of the Gospel in
the Church, flowing from the oral
preaching of the Apostles and the
written message of salvation under
the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
(Scripture). Tradition is preserved
and handed on as the Deposit of
Faith under the guidance of the
bishops, successors to the Apostles.
TRANSUBSTANTIATION:
A term
used to describe the unique change
of bread and wine into the Body
and Blood of Christ. By the conse-
cration, the substance of bread and
wine is changed into the substance
of Christ’s Body and Blood.
TRIDUUM:
In the Church’s liturgi-
cal calendar, these are the three
days that follow the conclusion of
Lent. The Triduum begins with the
Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy
Thursday and concludes with the
celebration of Evening Prayer on
Easter Sunday.
TRINITY:
One God in three
Persons—Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
TRUTH:
Reality and authentic-
ity according to God’s design.
Through God’s revelation, truth
is found in Apostolic Tradition, in
Scripture, and in the Magisterium
of the Church guided by the Holy
Spirit. In the human order, truth is
discovered by the light of reason
and reinforced by love of truth and
truthful behavior.
