Responding to Racism

"But racism still profoundly affects our culture, and it has no place in the Christian heart."

Christian Churches Together in the USA has been examining racial injustice ecumenically for several years. In 2013, the organization produced "A Response to Dr. Martin Luther King's 'Letter from Birmingham Jail'" along with a study guide. Their commitment to promote racial justice and reconciliation in our country continues in there dialogues and institutionally as they collect responses to the current climate of racial tension from their member organizations.

The National Council of Churches in the USA recently adopted a new priority to end racism. Their movement, A.C.T. Now to End Racism, looks to awaken individuals to the reality of racism, confront racism, and transform hearts and minds and therefore structures. As an organization, they have spoken out in response to recent unrest, and each of their convening tables, including Faith and Order, are searching for ways to contribute to ending racism.

Their past cycles have included related work on mass incarceration and racial violence.
