WASHINGTON— The activities of World Youth Day (WYD) in Madrid will include Theology on Tap on Wednesday, August 17, 7-9 p.m., at the Love and Life World Youth Day Pilgrim Center located within the Palacio de Deportes Arena. Archbishop J. Peter Sartain of Seattle will speak to the informal gathering. The program will also include a musical performance by Catholic performing artist John Angotti.
This evening event will provide opportunities for networking and conversation with young adults, ages 18-35, from the United States and other English-speaking countries on pilgrimage to Madrid. The event is sponsored by the National Catholic Young Adult Ministry Association (NCYAMA), in partnership with Renewal International and the Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Theology on Tap is one of a series of WYD events that will allow the young people to interact with U.S. bishops. Other opportunities, also at theLove and Life Center, include catechetical sessions, “meet the bishop” activities in which youth will have the opportunity to ask questions and dialogue informally with particular bishops, a lectio divina experience after the Stations of the Cross and the U.S. gathering and Mass the morning of Saturday, August 20. The Love and Life pilgrim center is being hosted by the Knights of Columbus and the Sisters of Life. For information and a schedule of activities at center go to www.wydenglishsite.org.
The U. S. bishops also will host a Vocations Fair, 4-11 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, at San Francisco de BorjaParish (Calle Maldonado, 1), across the street from the U.S. Embassy in Madrid.
Additionally, the eight U.S. bishops selected as catechists for WYD will provide catechesis Wednesday-Friday at different locations throughout Madrid. Those sites are still being determined and will be provided to pilgrims upon arrival.
Those who cannot attend in person can still join a Virtual Pilgrimage to WYD, www.virtualworldyouthday.org, sponsored by the USCCB Communications Department, which will include live streaming of all main events with Pope Benedict XVI.
