WASHINGTON—AMaryland lawyer, Massachusetts educator and Maryland businessman have beennamed to the National Review Board for four-year terms, 2012-2016, beginning inJune.
The new members include Kathleen Asdorian, president andmanaging attorney at Foundation Title, a residential and commercial real estatecompany in Bethesda, Maryland;theHonorable Michael Montelongo, seniorvice president and chief administrative officer for Sodexo, Inc., Gaithersburg,Maryland; and Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D.,president of Assumption College, Worcester, Massachusetts.
CardinalTimothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops(USCCB), made the appointments.
Asdorian earned her doctor of lawand licentiate in canon law degrees from The Catholic University of America andis an adjunct professor at CUA. She has done extensive volunteer work for theArchdiocese of Washington through the John Carroll Society and the DowntownWashington Serra Club and is postulator for the cause of beatification and canonizationof Mary Virginia Merrick, founder of the National Christ Child Society. Asdorianalso is a volunteer attorney for Washington’s Archdiocesan Legal Network ofCatholic Charities and a founding board member and current vice chair of theDon Bosco Cristo Rey High School. She also serves as vice president of theWashington archdiocesan chapter of CentesimusAnnus Pro Pontifice, the pontifical lay organization founded by John PaulII to promote Catholic social teaching.
Montelongo hasbeen with Sodexo since 2005. Prior to that he was appointed the 18thassistant secretary of the Air Force serving as chief financial officer and wasawarded the Air Force’s highest decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service. Hewas a career military officer serving in line and staff assignments in theUnited States and overseas. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the U.S.Military Academy at West Point, and a master’s degree in Business Administrationfrom Harvard Business School. He is a lifetime member of the Council on ForeignRelations, serves on the Audit, Finance, and Analysis Committee of the NationalAeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Advisory Committee, where he wasawarded NASA’s highest decoration for Exceptional Public Service, and sits onseveral corporate boards. He has been featured in leading Hispanic magazines forhis executive and business leadership.
Cesareo holds a doctorate in Late Medieval/EarlyModern European Historyfrom FordhamUniversity. He also was a Fulbright Scholar and studied at the University of Romeand Gregorian University in Rome. He has been president of Assumption Collegesince 2007, and has held both faculty and administrative positions at severalCatholic colleges and universities, including Duquesne University, Pittsburgh;John Carroll University, Cleveland; Albertus Magnus College, New Haven,Connecticut; and St. John’s University, Jamaica, New York. He serves on severalboards including the Board of Visitors of Worcester Academy and the New EnglandCenter for Children.
The new members will serve on theboard chaired by Al J. Notzon III, whose two-yearchairmanship began last June
The USCCB establishedthe National Review Board in 2002 as a consultative body tasked with reviewingthe annual report of the Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection on theimplementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and YoungPeople. It is part of thechurch’songoing efforts to prevent and combat clergy sexual abuse of minors.
