New Video from USCCB Explains What Happens In Catholic Rite of Marriage

WASHINGTON—A new video, "Saying IDo: What Happens at a Catholic Wedding," introduces viewers to the Rite ofMarriage and answers frequently asked questions about Catholic marriage. Thevideo is intended for engaged couples, their families and people involved inmarriage preparation, and anyone with questions about Catholic weddings.

"This will be a valuable addition tomarriage preparation programs. The Catholic Rite of Marriage is profound andbeautiful and I hope that engaged couples and their families will take this opportunityto learn more about it," said Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades, chairman of theCommittee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth of the U.S. Conference ofCatholic Bishops (USCCB).

The video includes a brief overviewof the sacrament of marriage and an explanation of the three forms of the Riteof Marriage. It answers basic questions such as when and where Catholicweddings can be held and how non-Catholic clergy can participate in theceremony. The video was produced by USCCB's Secretariat of Laity, Marriage,Family Life and Youth in collaboration with the Secretariat of Divine Worshipand the Department of Communications.

"Thevideo is a great way to help people to visualize the Catholic way ofcelebrating weddings," said Father Daniel Merz, USCCB's associate director ofDivine Worship. "It's good to get theseimages in our heads rather than more secular ones that really don't reflectChristian marriage."
