WASHINGTON—Pope Francis has named Most Reverend Bawai Soro to the titular see of Foraziana. He will continue to reside at the Chaldean Eparchy of St. Peter the Apostle in San Diego.
The appointment was publicized in Washington, January 11, by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
There are an estimated 60,000 Catholics in the Chaldean Eparchy of St. Peter the Apostle. The jurisdiction extends to all the Western states in the United States. Members include Catholics of the Chaldean or Assyrian rite, many of whom have immigrated to the United States from the Middle East, especially from Iraq and Iran.
