 WASHINGTON—Pope Francis has elevated the Apostolic Exarchate for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the United States to an eparchy for the United States and Canada. 

Pope Francis appointed Bishop Thomas Mar Eusebius Naickamparambil, who has led the Exarchate since its creation in 2010, to lead the new St. Mary, Queen of Peace, of USA and Canada Eparchy of the Syro-Malankara Church, transferring him from the Titular See of Lares and releasing him from the Office of Apostolic Visitator to the Syro-Malankara Catholics in Europe.

The announcement was publicized in Washington, January 4, by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

Bishop Eusebius was ordained a bishop on September 21, 2010. Pope Benedict XVI established the Apostolic Exarchate for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the United States on July 14, 2010, and appointed him to lead the Exarchate and the Apostolic Visitator to the Syro-Malankara Catholics in Europe and Canada.
