WASHINGTON—Pope Francis has named Father JeffreyR. Haines and Father James T. Schuerman as auxiliary bishops of Milwaukee. Bothare priests of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Until now, Fr. Haines has servedas rector and pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, and Fr. Schuermanhas served as pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church.
The appointments were publicized inWashington, January 25, by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio tothe United States.
Jeffrey Haines was born October 6, 1958 inMilwaukee. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Marquette University, 1981,and earned a master's of divinity from the Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in1985. He studied canon law at The Catholic University of America, 2002. He wasordained a priest on May 17, 1985.
Assignments after ordination include:parochial vicar at St. Nicholas Parish, Milwaukee, 1985-1987; St. NicholasParish and Holy Redeemer Parish, 1987-1991; and St. Eugene Parish, Fox Point,1991-1996. Pastor, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, West Bend, 1996-2002;2003-2011; temporary administrator, St. Patrick Parish, Whitewater, 2002-2003;assisting priest, Immaculate Conception Parish and Saint Mary Parish, WestBend, 2004-2011; rector and pastor, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist,Milwaukee, 2011-present.
James Schuerman was born April 5, 1957. Hepursued seminary studies at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary College. He earned abachelor's degree from Saint Francis de Sales Seminary College in St. Francis, Wisconsin;a master's degree in theology from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, wherehe also continued his seminary studies at the Collegium Canisianum, Austria. Healso holds a doctorate in ministry from the Catholic Theological Union, Chicago,1996. He was ordained a priest on May 17, 1986.
