Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of Bishop Daniel Jenky, C.S.C. of Peoria; Succeeded by Coadjutor Bishop Louis Tylka

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., 75, from the Office of Bishop of Peoria. Bishop Louis Tylka, up until now coadjutor bishop of the same diocese, will succeed him as bishop of Peoria.

WASHINGTON - Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., 75, from the Office of Bishop of Peoria. Bishop Louis Tylka, up until now coadjutor bishop of the same diocese, will succeed him as bishop of Peoria.

The appointment was publicized in Washington on March 3, by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

The Diocese of Peoria is comprised of 16,933 square miles in the state of Illinois. It has a population of 1,492,335 people of whom, 132,205 are Catholic.
