Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of Bishop John Quinn of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester; Appoints Bishop Robert Barron as Successor

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop John M. Quinn, 76, from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, and has appointed Bishop Robert E. Barron, auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles, as his successor.

WASHINGTON - Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop John M. Quinn, 76, from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, and has appointed Bishop Robert E. Barron, auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles, as his successor.

The resignation and appointment were publicized in Washington, D.C. on June 2, 2022, by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

The Diocese of Winona-Rochester is comprised of 12,282 square miles in the State of Minnesota and has a total population of 597,801 of which 134,027 are Catholic.
