Church teaching on racism is clear: it is a sin. Yet many violent incidents of this past year attest that racism persists in our nation. As Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, said in a July 2016 statement: "People are suffering because their uniform is blue, suffering because their skin is black and suffering simply because of their station in life."
