Called to Live Mercy in Our Common Home
The 2016 Catholic Social Ministry Gathering takes place in the spirit of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Our theme is also inspired by the encyclical 'Laudato Si’, and Pope Francis' call for an integral ecology that connects justice for our sisters and brothers with care of all creation.
For more than 25 years, the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering has served as an important central and annual opportunity for U.S. Catholics to network, advocate for social justice, and form leaders in service to the Church and society. Washington D.C. is the necessary place to meet with our national political leadership, and the best place to gather Church leaders and experts in civil society to examine the relevance of our Catholic Social Teaching tradition to current domestic and international affairs. In 2015, CSMG participants made more than 200 visits to their Representatives and Senators advocating in the interest of our sisters and brothers who are suffering, neglected, or in harm’s way, and raising the voice of the Catholic community in the public square for the common good.
