The purpose of this contribution is to report and review some work on the biophysical properties of the human cervical and vaginal secretions and relate these properties to the practical use of natural family planning {NFP). The work reported here has been performed during the past 27 years, first at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Karolinska Institutet, Sabbats­berg Hospital, Stockholm (11 years) and then at the Department of Medical Biophysics, University of Umea, Sweden (16 years).
