USCC News Release: National Christian-Jewish Workshop Will Be Held Nov. 4-7 in Chicago by Anita Fusco, June 22, 1990

WASHINGTON--The Bishops' Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs (BCEIA) of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops is one of the sponsors of the 12th National Workshop on Christian-Jewish Relations, which will be held from November 4 to 7 in Chicago.

The Conference was one of the original founders of the Workshop, and Dr. Eugene Fisher, Director for Christian-Jewish Relations at the Conference, serves as National Chairperson for the Workshop.

Johannes Cardinal Willebrands of Rome, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism, will give a major presentation, entitled "Religious Pluralism and the Second Vatican Council." He will be introduced by Joseph Cardinal Bernardin of Chicago and responded to by Bishop Krjster Stendahl of Harvard University Divinity School.

The format of the Workshop will include presentations by experts in the field, and several 90-minute seminars and workshops. Among the topics for debate and discussion are secularism, the Holocaust, changes in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Hispanic issues, bio-ethical concerns, and feminist theology.
