In this issue, we highlight the upcoming United Nations International Conference on Population and Development to be held in Cairo in September. Within this International Year of the Family it is important to be aware of the current UN discussions which impact governmental policy on the transmission of life, pre-born life, and the structure of the traditional family. Be sure to take a look at Bishop McHugh's article on the ways in which the UN draft document on population and development obstructs traditional family values (p. 5). For an understanding of the Church's overall perception of the difficulties of the UN document, see the Holy Father's address to the Secretary General of the UN Conference on Population and Development (p. 1ff).
