Poverty USA Student Action Project

Ideas for K-8 for poverty awareness.

For over 40 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has worked to build community by bringing people together from all walks of life to work for social justice. The mission of CCHD is to provide financial support to organized groups of poor and low-income people who are working to change laws and policies in order to promote social justice and eliminate poverty. The recipients of CCHD-funding are focused on social justice rather than charitable works. CCHD also provides opportunities and resources to help Catholics reflect on how their faith calls them to promote a more just society.

The Poverty USA Student Action Project extends CCHD’s mission to our school children, helping to raise our youth’s awareness of poverty in America and to promote a continuing commitment to social justice. This toolkit is designed to help Catholic elementary school principals and teachers as well as religious education directors engage their schools and/or parishes in a poverty awareness campaign utilizing resources developed by CCHD.
