Lay Ecclesial Ministry: 15 Years After "Co-Workers"

Lay Ecclesial Ministry: 15 Years After "Co-Workers"

Dr. Marc DelMonico, Director of Certification for Ecclesial Ministry, and Dr. Harry Dudley presented on developments in the area of lay ecclesial ministry in 2020 at the National Association for Lay Ministry's 2020 virtual conference.

By determination of the USCCB Administrative Committee in its vote of March 14, 2023, the work of the subcommittee will come to a conclusion on June 30, 2023. At this time, new requests to consult on or approve standards are paused due to the proximate conclusion of the subcommittee's work.

The subcommittee and its office staff offer consultation, upon request, to lay ministry formation programs in arch/dioceses and academic institutions for the purpose of improving the quality and effectiveness of these programs in accord with the guidance offered by Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord and by other relevant pastoral documents of the USCCB and the universal magisterium. These consultations can take the form of:

  • Support for the development of ecclesial ministry standards for particular leadership roles for consideration for approval by the USCCB subcommittee
  • Presentations or engagements in conferences or workshops on topics related to the work of the subcommittee or lay ecclesial ministry
  • Participation in activities, articles, or other events related to the work of the subcommittee, lay ecclesial ministry, or related theological or pastoral topics

The consultation fee for dioceses, national ministry organizations or other groups that are not related to development of standards or competencies for subcommittee review is $350, payable via check, money order or direct bank debit to our office. This typically covers one year of modest / occasional consultation. For more intensive / regular consultation, an additional fee may be requested. Fees may be reviewed or waived in lieu of other considerations (e.g. travel / lodging related to an in-person conference, etc.) or reduced for circumstances (virtual venue vs. in-person, etc.). The fees go to support the work of the subcommittee and its outreach and engagement with diocesan programs of ministry formation and national ministry organizations.
