Bishop Larry Silva, chairman of the Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Island Affairs, in his presentation during the USCCB Plenary Assembly in November 2023 said, “Following its approval in 2018, the Subcommittee developed a multi-year ‘Dissemination and Implementation Plan’ with an outline of pastoral activities to bring to life the recommendations of the bishops… In the five years since the approval of the pastoral response, the implementation activities have borne good fruit that have strengthened ministries within Asian and Pacific Island communities. At the same time, much is still needed in the form of pastoral support from dioceses and Catholic institutions, especially for Asian and Pacific Islander youth, young adults, and immigrant communities. The welcoming and support will help to ensure that these families are better integrated into parishes and dioceses, grow in their commitment to increase participation in parish life, and are encouraged to take leadership roles in the Church.”
