Spring Meeting of the National Council of Churches' Faith and Order Table

The National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA’s Convening Table on Theological Dialogue and Matters of Faith and Order convened in Herndon, VA from May 30 to June 1, 2019. This group, which meets twice a year, is working to conclude three study groups: “Violence in an Age of Genocide,” “Responding to WCC Documents [two documents on Christian witness in a pluralistic world],” and “Climate and Conflict.” Each group is set to produce a final product by the beginning of next year.

U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops representative, Prof. Matthew Shadle of Marymount University, co-chair of the Violence in an Age of Genocide, which has focused on racial violence as a slow genocide in the United States, has been preparing a paper that will soon be available in a special edition of a recognized journal.

There was also discussion on future topics for a subsequent round they hope to begin by the end of the next meeting in October. The next meeting will be a part of the annual Christian Unity Gathering sponsored by the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, which will be held October 13-16, 2019 in Hampton, VA.
