The 2024 Annual Report of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), administered by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), highlights the campaign's commitment to empowering low-income and marginalized communities through grassroots initiatives rooted in Catholic social teaching and the Beatitudes, addressing root causes of poverty via community and economic development. Generating revenues of nearly $8.9 million primarily from national collections, CCHD approved $2.24 million in grants for 90 projects, with community development grants totaling $1.93 million focused on resilient communities and housing (54%), worker rights (20%), criminal justice reform (16%), immigrant rights (8%), and environmental protection (1%), while economic development grants of $310,000 supported home ownership (65%), worker-owned businesses (32%), and job training (3%). Featured efforts include a $25,000 grant to Las Señoras in Idaho for advocating services for families with developmentally disabled children; $25,000 to the Restorative Justice Mediation Program in California for facilitating victim-offender dialogues and reentry programs; $10,000 to Pacific Peer Connections in Hawaii for peer support aiding women post-incarceration; and $25,000 to People’s Self-Help Housing in Kentucky for building affordable homes and training tradespeople. Chaired by Bishop Timothy C. Senior of Harrisburg, this initiative fosters justice, mercy, and self-sufficiency, encouraging continued contributions to transform lives and communities in pursuit of the common good.
