Letter to Ambassador of Argentina Aja Espil on Human Rights, April 15, 1977
April 15, 1977
H. E. Jorge Aja Espil
Ambassador of Argentina
1600 New Hampshire Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20009
Dear Mr. Ambassador:
Over the past year we have expressed our deep and growing concern about the evident deterioration of the rights to life and liberty experienced by so many in Argentina today.
This office has received literally scores of individual communications from family members and friends of persons who are presumed to have been arrested or who have simply disappeared. Almost every day brings new reports of alleged killings, arrests or disappearances.
Two of the most recent of these directly affect persons engaged in the Christian ministry of peace and justice, Father Carlos Bustos of the Little Brothers of the Gospel, and Adolfo Perez Esquival, general coordinator of the Servicio Paz y Justicia en America Latino.
I would be grateful if you would communicate our concern regarding these two persons in particular to the appropriate governmental authorities.
Sincerely, Rev. J. Bryan Hehir
Associate Secretary
