Letter to Archbishop Carroll on Bali Bombing, October 17, 2002
October 17, 2002
Most Reverend Francis Patrick Carroll
Archbishop of Canberra
President, Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference
63 Currong Street

Your Excellency,
In the name of the Bishops of the United States, I write to express our sympathy and prayers for you and all the people of Australia who were so affected by the terrorism directed at hundreds of innocent persons on the Indonesian island of Bali a week ago. Because so many of the victims of this vicious attack were from your country, all Australians today share with us in the United States an ever deeper and personal awareness of the horror of global terrorism.
I would be grateful if you would let the families and friends of the victims know that we share their mourning for their loved ones and that we hold in our prayers all who have been affected.
With sentiments of sympathy and of solidarity with Your Excellency and all your brother bishops, I remain
Fraternally yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory
Bishop of Belleville
President
