Sudan Humanitarian Crisis
August 2004
Sample Pulpit Announcement
Recent news reports have highlighted the desperate humanitarian crisis occurring in Darfur, Sudan, where fighting has resulted in widespread death and displacement for Sudanese civilians. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than one million people have been forced from their homes into refugee camps. Aid agencies, including Catholic Relief Services, are trying to provide assistance such as food, water, and shelter, but the need is overwhelming. Bishop Wilton Gregory, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has invited the Catholic community in the U.S. to show our concern for our brothers and sisters in Sudan by providing support for CRS's humanitarian relief efforts. The second collection today will go to CRS's programs in Sudan. Thank you for your generosity.
