What is the World Youth Day Contest?
The CLA World Youth Day Contest is an effort to engage young people ages 16 through 30 in learning about World Youth Day and the USCCB's Collection for the Church in Latin America. The contest is supported by the USCCB's Collection for the Church in Latin America in collaboration with the USCCB's Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth.
What is the Collection for the Church in Latin America?
The annual Collection for the Church in Latin America facilitates the expression of solidarity between the bishops of the United States and those of Latin America and the Caribbean. The collection is administered by the USCCB's Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America, in collaboration with the U.S. dioceses. The Subcommittee utilizes the proceeds of the collection to manage a grants program designed to support the pastoral work of the Church in Latin America. The Subcommittee also develops educational resources and opportunities for Catholics in the U.S. to learn about the reality of the Church in Latin America. The Collection for the Church in Latin America is one of the National Collections of the USCCB.
When does the contest take place?
The contest runs from 6:00 AM EST June 4 – 12:00 Midnight EST July 30, 2013. The contest deadline is July 30, 2013.
What is the goal of the contest?
The goal is for people to learn about the significance and history of World Youth Day, World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the Collection for the Church in Latin America.
How does the contest work?
Check the contest homepage each day. You will see questions regarding a Bible passage, a fun fact about the work of the USCCB's National Collections, or a quote from the Pope. These questions will also be posted daily on the USCCB Facebook page. Answer each question with your best guess and send your answer to email@example.com. The correct entries will be entered into a pool and a winner will be chosen from the pool at random. Each week, one winner will be randomly selected from all correct entries by USCCB staff to receive a prize. Winners will be notified by email.

What ages can participate?
People between the ages of 16 to 34 can participate.
How can an individual participate?
By answering the question posted on the contest homepage
. All answers should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
. Once the winner is randomly selected, USCCB staff will contact the winner email to obtain their shipping
address. All prizes will be sent via USPS.
Can an entire school, parish or Diocese participate?
No, only individuals can participate. Since only one entry per week will be selected as the winner, there is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted per week. However, winners of previous weeks are not eligible to win again.
How are entries judged?
A question regarding a Bible passage,
the work of the USCCB's National Collections or a quote from the Pope
will be asked. Each week, one winner will be randomly selected by USCCB
staff from all correct entries.
What are the prizes?
The prizes are t-shirts, rosaries, and pins with the official WYD logo. One prize per week will be given away.
